Smart Shelf

Bachelor's Projects

Smart Shelf is a shelf, which has an electronic price tag to automatically adjust the price of the product based on the supply of the product. The higher the supply, the cheaper it is. Smart Shelf is also used for crowd management, which makes product a little bit more expensive during peak hours, so customers would prefer to go to the supermarket outside the peak hours. Smart Shelf consists of 2 strain gauges, which are connected to Arduino.

Biting Protection

People with mental illness or epilepsy tend to have physical and psychological problem which is expressed by an extreme behavior. As a result, there will be so many wounds. This problem is experienced by our client Levi, 9-year-old epileptic child. Therefore, we come up with a solution to create a biting protective gloves. it is made out of double-sided softshell, which waterproof, breathable, non-toxic, and convenient to wear. We also add chewy tube, the stuff that Levi usually bite, on the gloves. the position of the chewy tube on the glove is adjustable, depending on where the person bites on.

Making a Monster

”Making a Monster” installation was made for an exhibition in creative technology, which is inspired from the story of Frankenstein. In order to create an experience for the user to become Frankenstein, the user should assemble body parts in the correct position to create new creature and it will tell the story how every person, whom the body parts belong to, died. After the all the body parts have been attached and the stories have been told, the user needs to put an electric shock to the mannequin. However, instead of shocking the mannequin, the machine will electricute you with low voltage. The message of this installation is that you should not play God, otherwise you will get an unpleasant outcomes.

ElderLight

The number of traffic accidents has increased over the past few years. Some of the accidents are involving bikes and the majority of the victims are elderly people. The rising number of elderly cyclist death on road accident is the result of inflexibility and lack of traffic awareness of the elderly people. Therefore, we created a product to improve elderly cyclists’ safety. The product is called “ElderLight”, which consists of turning light, braking light, and overtaking detection. We put overtaking detection, which sense the presence of other cyclists with a distance of 1 meter. The user will be notified by the blinking LED on the rear-view mirror, so it gets attention from the reader and he can immediately see the other cyclists on the mirror. This feature will increase the traffic awareness of the elderly people.

Smart Fruit Bowl

A smart fruit bowl was created to improve young adults’ fruit intake. The fruit bowl consists of an ultrasonic sensor to detect people in the surrounding area, a color sensor to recognise what fruit is taken, a speaker, and an LED. This project was rewarded with an 8.5 and the prototype of this project was displayed in Multisensory Human-Food Interaction workshop in Utrecht, October 2020.

Plaex App

Plaex App educates people how to recycle properly through gamification, and rewards system. To engage the users to use the app, the user can collect points and exchange it with drinks and food.

Snackaholic

Snackaholic website aims to encourage employees to eat healthy food by providing an online service that delivers their orders at their desks. Snackaholic is also integrated with Snack tablet that is put on the employees’ desks.

Robotics Extended Reality

Master's Projects

A nursery robot that can be controlled via virtual reality was created to monitor elderly people in nursing homes remotely. The robot is equipped with facial expression recognition and a temperature sensor, so that the caregiver is aware of the elderly people's health and emotional states.

Human Perception and Psychology

The impact of correlated color temperature on facial expression perception was evaluated in virtual reality to validate the findings of similar studies in the real world. We discovered that warm light and cold light slightly affect how human perceives certain facial expressions in virtual reality.

Hyperspectral Imaging

Hyperspectral camera was used to determined the spatial illuminance of a scene. This approach is faster and less labour-intensive compare to the conventional approach using a lux meter, where the user needs to measure the illuminance of the scene on the ground point by point.

Lighting Project

This project focuses on making lighting industry more sustainable. We created personalized 3D-printed lamps using recycled filament and more energy-efficient LEDs.
